What a summer we are having. Fabulous in every way. As ever, our problem is never to get people to support us – it’s keeping up with it all and at the same time preparing for future events. We are never bored.
August was no exception:
Bags:
Material Girls, who meet at the Eastrea Centre once a week and have made some beautiful Syringe Driver bags (take a look at our gallery). They are so bright and colourful and will be very gratefully received. Thank you also to Anna foster for dropping them off to us. We are so lucky to have such wonderful community spirit! These were all made in just one morning. Well done everyone!
Shirley Short also both made and delivered lovely syringe driver bags this month. Thanks again. Shirley.
Collections:
Our little pink collection boxes are steadily and steadfast bringing in the pennies.
Thanks as ever to staff and customers at the Muffin Oven in Whittlesey. Another £45.04 towards our great cause.
Events:
For the second year running we spent a sunny afternoon by the river in Wansford, being entertained by Wansford Ukulele Folk (WUF, for short..) and enjoying our picnic bags full of goodies, in Paul and Elin Styles’ garden. A lovely afternoon which on the day raised £1033.00. As tickets are limited to 50, this is a very generous bunch…The last £67.00 was raised by any means in the following days, so enough was raised for another syringe driver. Thank you so much to all who attended, donated and helped. A specal mention to Barry Veni, who made a fab garden table from a pallet, sold it and donated the money to the cause. Hope to do it all again next year.
A great surprise:
Wow is all we can say! We received a letter from the Peterborough senior citizens forum who have unfortunately had to close their forum due to lack of support. Their constitution stated that any monies they had must be given to charities or groups that will benefit the general public and they chose to send a donation of £2250!! to NGNPUK. We cannot thank the forum enough for their generosity. This donation will buy 2 more syringe drivers which will help so many more people when they are most in need. Massive thanks.
Thank you to the Rotary club of Peterborough Ortons for their donation of £25 to NGNPUK. The Werrington Rotary club sadly closed and bequeathed their beautiful bell to the Ortons club who offered to make a donation to a charity of the Werrington clubs choice. Many thanks to both clubs.
Cake bake:
Big thanks again to Lindsay Halbert for organising a cake bake at her work (Royal Sun Alliance). You may remember Lindsay raised a whopping £200 for NGNPUK earlier in the year. We have just received another cheque for £200 from Royal Sun Alliance who have kindly matched what was raised which is fantastic. A big thank you all round.
Whittlesey festival:
Our local Whittlesey Festival is a big event for us and we have been busy getting donated sweets etc for our stall this year. More about that next month.
Thank you to the lovely district nurses who cover the Whittlesey, Thorney, Eye and Stanground areas for your donation of filled jam jars and sweets for the Whittlesey festival. Also to Sue Shore, Valerie Griffiths and Marion Godfrey for your goodies!
Thank you to Jan Mawby for your donation of soft toys which will come in very handy for a future teddy tombola.
In Memory:
We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the family, friends and work colleagues of Justin Housden for their very generous donation of £1171.75 in his memory. Justin sadly passed away unexpectedly in February this year from complications after surgery and it was his families wish to donate any money raised in his menory to NGNPUK. We received a lovely letter from Justin 's employer Advanced Handling with a cheque for £871.75 and another £300 from Justin's partner Emma which was raised by family and friends in lieu of flowers at Justin's funeral. This donation will make a huge difference to people locally in need of palliative care in their own homes and will allow us to purchase a complete syringe driver and lock box. We would like to thank everyone for their generosity. We will be thinking of Justin's family at this very sad time. Thank you once again.

We would like to say a big thank you to the friends and family of Elizabeth Atkins who sent us a very kind donation of £117.30. These donations make a huge difference to us and help buy more syringe drivers to help many more people in our local communities. We will be thinking of Elizabeth's family at this sad time.
