Getting noticed...

So you may or may not have signed up to follow us on Twitter, and if you have, you should be warned.... We're on a mission to get some publicity for our cause..

For those that don't get all this fuss about twitter?  Well, much the same as other social media, it's a way to connect with people.  There are no geographical boundaries, the whole world becomes your audience..

With this is mind, we're hoping to start sending tweets to those that are following us (you can follow us here) about how we're all getting on with the training and if I can manage it, a running commentary during the event itself.  We're also looking to raise awareness with many public figures and ask them to help publicise our cause to their own followers... watch this space!

Training this weekend consisted on a slightly unconventional 10 mile seaside walk for Louise and I (although I definitely prefer cycling than walking 10 miles over sand!) and to our delight have found several more cycle routes for us to put some miles on within the great setting of Holkham Hall in Norfolk.

With palliative care still in the news this week, it's highlighting a system that needs a complete overhaul sooner rather than later. These are real people, not statistics and this is happening now..

We hope that by our fundraising, we can make a difference in a system that is struggling NOW!!

If you can help by sharing our message, donating or even just publicising our efforts, it is very much appreciated.

We have a poster freely available to download here

Is walking any good???

So Louise and I have just returned from a week in the lakes.  The intention was to do some walking, hiking and some exercise...

It rained pretty much non-stop with snow on one particular day, but despite this we did manage to get a few miles in (although some of them ended up at the best cake shop in the whole of the UK - The Apple Pie in Ambleside - Bath buns and Hot cross buns are from another world!!).

We were impressed with the number of cyclists we saw whizzing about, and in all fairness, some of the hill climbs we walked up have given us an indication of the fitness levels needed to motor up them on a cycle.  It's not going to be easy from the route we're following on race day.

We also met up with Sam and her family for a quick jaunt.  Was a nice 18 mile ride and a mooch around Ferry Meadows country park. It's a tribute to the cycle ways around the Green wheel that can largely get you around the city of Peterborough and surrounding towns safely without needing to travel on many roads.

We've also had great news that a number of other participants are joining our team for race day.

It seems palliative care and it's current state is making headlines in the news (see this BBC article), so this really is a worthwhile cause so please donate if you can.

We're also hoping to go live on twitter very soon, so keep an eye out on our tweets.

Up the ante...

OK... so it seems like the girls are throwing down the gauntlet with their hectic training regimes!!

My excuse of having a mild injury is now starting to wear thin so they say... so it's time for me to up my game!  I regularly cycle 16 miles a day... from home to work and back so this 50 mile thing should be a doddle!!   although I haven't ridden for nearly 2 months (gulp!) and it's so easy to loose fitness after a couple of weeks.

I've had a 3 mile walk today and a mild jog (100 meters - come on.. I'm still slightly injured you know!) and I'm hoping to get some miles under my belt this week as I fire up Strava....

The most IMPORTANT question I have to answer is this....

Stereophonics, the Shires and Erasure or do I randomise!!

Getting serious now...

Well what do you reckon do I look the part lol (take a look at my latest photo in the Gallery). Hubbies stuff just fits but he is complaining I have stretched it in various places.....

Well I have just done 19 miles averaging 14.1 so getting faster again. My bum is fine however, I've had serious issues with my back. Apparently saddle was not high enough (Thanks Brian)!!.

I think on day I am going to dose up with painkillers in case it happens again.  I'm not tired but I couldn't ride any further due to the pain. This is not as easy as I thought it would be.....

Learning to Blog.

Well this is me (Louise) learning how to blog:) I have never done one before and probably won't ever do one again unless someone tells me how to get back into here :)

I'm sending the instructions to Sam to see if she can work it out and let you all know how her training is going. She tells me she is going to attempt 20 miles this weekend and now its on here i think she will be under pressure to do it (lol).

Me on the other hand, i have a child's party to attend so that's my workout for the weekend. No, in all seriousness GOOD LUCK Sam!

I will be having a ride out at some point as it's getting very close to D day and I need some practice.  I was thinking that doing 9 odd miles a day which I have done for years would mean 50 would be easy...who was i kidding! 25 miles the other week nearly broke me... I defiantly think we will need food halfway!

So far we have £50 in the pot which is a start but we are about £1250 odd short so come on people you KNOW you want to. Every little really does help.

Love Lou.

So today we started to promote this site... a smart move we think!!.. Friday the 13th AND Comic Relief 2015... No competition then!! ;-)

We've had our first donations, and they are massively appreciated.

We're hoping to spread the word via Facebook, social media, word of mouth and by any other means possible, so thinking caps are on.

We hope that you can help us spread the word..

Feel free to comment.  Any training advice is greatly appreciated as we suspect chocolate and cake aren't necessarily the food of champions!!

And so it begins....

So we thought this set up a website, do a bike ride and raise some money for a good cause lark was going to be easy.......  It would be a laugh.....  50 miles, yeah, we can do that.. erm....... hello!!

We've been at this now for 6 weeks, finding out the information needed to get this site running, how to make sure any money raised gets to where we want it and figure out all this techy stuff... all without putting 1 foot on a pedal..

Well actually, not strictly true, we've undertaken 1 incredibly wet 3 lap circuit around Grafham water (stopping for the obligatory coffee and cake), a ride from Whittlesey to Ferry Meadows country park and a myriad of cycling trips to school, the pub and areas of interest... Oh and 2 spills causing minimal damage to the bike thankfully, the riders ego less so, and a near collision with a driver with questionable skills (I'm sure a red light means stop)!

I can see this is going to be easy (ahem!!)
