Hi all
Another month has passed in the blink of an eye and here’s what’s been going on.
Firstly…
We would like to say a very big thank you to the family of Bill Allen who kindly donated the funds collected at Bills funeral to NGNPUK. Bill lived in Whittlesey all his life and this money will go towards purchasing another Syringe driver for the area in the future. Donations like this make a huge difference to the charity. Many thanks to all Bills family and friends for their generosity at this sad time.
On Friday 20th January we raced our human hound Jabba the Mutt (aka Lee) in the human hound race at the Peterborough Grey hound Stadium. He would receive £50 for racing and had the chance to qualify for the final which he actually managed to do! Our Jabba came second on the night and was able to bask in the glory for a whole two weeks before the final where sadly due to a wardrobe malfunction he came last :( Such a shame as there was a massive £500 up for grabs plus our Jabba had been getting up at 5am to train. Take a look at our gallery for photos and a video of the final!
Another thank you to Rosemary Hayward who donated her winter fuel allowance to NGNPUK. This donation will go towards more syringe drivers in local communities :). These donations make a huge difference. Each syringe driver can help so many people during its working life. Many thanks Rosemary.
We put out a plea for any unwanted bottles of alcohol that people may have kicking around after the festive period. It's a long way off but we will be attending the Easter delights craft fayre at Sue Ryder on 15th and 16th April and would like to raffle a barrow of booze so we thought we would try and get organised early.
We also put out a plea to any crafters out there as we needed to fill our craft stall with something and we are not the greatest at all things crafty! We have been amazed by the reaction and the generosity of people. We had a box of goodies from the lovelies at Interior Goods Direct in Wakefield as well as another box of material for making bags. Also we have had craft donations from Heidi Lowman, Chris Turner, and Penny Lewin-Watts and hopefully have more things on the way to us soon. Everyone has been so very kind.
We had more Syringe driver bags delivered back to us from Susan Cuthburt who had been very busy as well as Jenny Palmer thank you ladies. These bags will all be used in people's homes when they have a syringe driver. If anyone would like to make a bag or two please get in touch we can supply the material and the instructions. Thanks again Sue and Jenny!
Also big thanks go to Cathie Baxter-Edwards and Tracey Hawkins for donating their Christmas card money to NGNPUK. Also to the mystery person who sent a postal order to Discovering Whittlesey for NGNPUK for £25 in September. We received it in January. The first name is Paul and we can't quite make out the surname but it begins with V. Many thanks and thank you to Discovering Whittlesey for getting it to us :)
We received feedback from the district nurses and the 11 extra drivers that have been donated in our area (which covers New Queens Street, Jenner, Thorney, Stanground and Eye surgeries) as well as the 1 extra one for Wansford (also covering Laxton, Wittering, Collyweston, Stibbington, Barnack, Sutton, Castor and Ailsworth) have been in almost constant use since they were handed over.
This goes to show how much are needed we often wonder what would happen to all these people if the extra 12 weren’t out there.
We thought it was time to get organised so we have been busy booking events and venues and whilst trying to get into our shed, Louise had the great idea of doing an indoor car boot sale to shift some of our stuff! In the throes of organising that we only ended up advertising it on a group in Australia by mistake! Thank you to the lovely lady who pointed out it was a bit far to come :) Here are some of the other events we have coming up this will give you an idea of what we are organising at the moment:-
Some lovely ladies called Jennie and Eileen have organised a coffee morning at the Royal Oak pub in Castor on Thursday 23rd Feb 10am-12noon.
Our indoor car boot sale is on Sunday 12th March – at The Eastrea Centre - £8 a pitch in advance 10am until 2pm/
Saturday and Sunday 15th &16th April we have the Easter Delights craft fayre at Thorpe Hall, this is the biggie the one we need to fill our table for ;)
Everyone seemed to enjoy last year’s quiz night so we thought we would do another one on Saturday May 6th - Quiz night St Andrews Hall starts at 7.30pm bring your own food and drink. Tables of up to 8
Saturday 7th October this is a new one for us but we thought a junior mastermind quiz would be good this will be at Childers more details to follow on that later.
Finally for this blog a Thank you to young Alfie Forge from Stilton for donating some of your hard earned pocket money to NGNPUK.
