We’re back with an even bigger and better update!
We’ve had an eventful month and things have been flying along, so much so that we’ve barely had time to catch breath.
Firstly, we have to say a massive thanks to Bruce and Denise and all their regulars at the Letter B pub in Whittlesey, who have made a generous donation of £500 to us. We were privileged to receive a donation alongside the Whittlesey Christmas lights committee and money towards a Defibrillator placed at the “Field of Dreams”. It really is wonderful to see our community pulling together for such amazing local causes.
We’re also pleased (and relieved) to say that we’ve had our first successful quiz night, and the feedback we have received has been amazing, so we really appreciate it. To say that there were a few “hearty discussions” leading up to the event is an understatement, but we hope that the tone of the night re questions set and the atmosphere made this a memorable event for those that came. For those that didn’t make it, we hope to have a repeat performance next year (based on all the wonderful feedback), so hopefully we’ll see you there (with a shorter raffle!!)
We really cannot thank everyone enough for coming along to support us, raising awareness and generally allowing us to do what we can to help.
We had a massive success, with a donation from Jonathan Dale on behalf of the Whittlesey Angling Association for another driver. This is particularly poignant, as Dave (Louise’s Dad) was a keen angler all his life and immersed himself in the club dedicating time to teaching and encouraging the young anglers. With the money made from the quiz night, we’re able to keep supplying the nursing team drivers whenever they need.
This leads on nicely to the day of Wednesday 13th April....
We had the opportunity to handover another 2 Syringe drivers to the community nursing team, amongst them was Aiden Thomas, Chief Executive of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust who wanted to come and personally thank us for our efforts, none of which would have been possible without the support from all of you, so again, we really cannot thank you all enough and emphasise the difference these machines make.
We also had a very useful and informative meeting with the lovely ladies at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT for short). Among the things we discussed were the issues that are faced with using these machines. They go into people’s homes and therefore can have unfortunate things happen to them such as the sad case of a patient who was suffering from Alzheimer’s throwing the driver against a wall as they were not aware what they were doing. The lock box was smashed but thankfully the driver was safe.
This goes to show how important these boxes are in protecting the driver itself. These Syringe drivers cannot be used unless they are in a secure box so we have agreed with the CPFT to buy 6 more lock boxes to keep the drivers safe and free from damage and to ensure that they are always out there in our communities in working order.
We have some support from a bunch of lovely young ladies who have offered to “shut up” for 48 hrs.
On the 6th & 7th May 2016, Imogen Hamilton Hirniak, Amber Homer, both aged 10, and three of their friends are taking on the very difficult challenge of not speaking for 48 hours in order to raise money. We wish them all the best as having 3 children under the age of 10 between us all here at NGNPUK, we know this is NOT an easy task to undertake, but we can be sure all of the parents involved will find it “difficult” with all this new found peace and quiet.
Please support the girls in any way you can… it is such an amazing gesture!
Thank you Imogen, Amber and friends!!

Finally, we’d also like to thank all those involved with the Motor City Vipers charity gig at the Ivy Leaf on 14th May at 19:30, particularly Rachael Smith and Michelle Burke, who have offered to donate proceeds from this night to ourselves and Whittlesey Defibrillators for All.

We hope that the night is a massive success and we hope to see you there!!. Dancing shoes at the ready!!
